You could see the frustration on James Hetfield's face as he walked off the stage after Metallica's Grammy performance with Lady Gaga In an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden, drummer Lars Ulrich opened up about how enraged the frontman really was after technical issues plagued the performance.

Metallica performed "Moth Into Flame" with pop superstar Lady Gaga had a rocky start when Hetfield's mic was muted for the first half of the song, which has since been blamed on a stagehand accidently unplugging it. As the song finished, Hetfield kicked over his mic stand and angrily threw his guitar to the side. “I haven’t seen him like that in 20 years,” Ulrich said on the show. “He was livid. He’s aged really well and he’s a pretty chill guy, but the first five or 10 minutes in that dressing room was not a lot of fun, but as they say, the show must go on and we fought through it.”

The conversation then switches to the other guest's technical mishaps, with Ulrich telling a hilarious story about a drum riser that would not lift. Watch the clip above.
