School superintendent faces charges for using own insurance to help kid

This is what's wrong with our country! Casey Smitherman of the Elwood School District was charged with insurance fraud and identity deception this week. Apparently, the student had symptoms of strep throat so she took him to an emergency clinic, where he was denied treatment because she wasn't his guardian.

Smitherman then checked him in at another clinic under her son's name and insurance. The Elwood school board says it's standing behind Smitherman, and released a statement saying she made an unfortunate mistake, but continues to have their support. "I know this action was wrong," Smitherman says in a statement. "In the moment, my only concern was for this child’s health."
