Olympia Oshogatsu: Free Community Event

Olympia-Kato Sister City Association and River Ridge High School Band will hold theOlympia Oshogatsu on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at River Ridge High School. This Japanese New Year’s Celebration is free and open to the community.

OLYMPIA OSHOGATSU brings a celebration of Japanese culture and the new year back to the South Sound area. It features several performing groups and activities offering a fun experience for the whole family. Activities and performances include the River Ridge Taiko Ensemble, Saint Martin’s University Soran Bushi dance ensemble, calligraphy painting by Chiyo Sanada, mochi pounding, Japanese puppet shows by RRHS Japanese language students, South Bay Elementary School Choir, information booths, and kids’ activities and crafts.

Donations are gladly accepted at the door, but there is no admissions cost. Calligraphy artwork created in performance by Chiyo Sanada will be raffled off at the end of the event. All proceeds will help support Olympia-Kato Sister City Association and River Ridge Taiko Ensemble.

Come see and experience Japanese culture at 350 River Ridge Dr. SE, Lacey (only 1.1 mile off I-5 between exits #111 & #114). You’ll find this “must attend” event conveniently located very close to I-5 at the Pierce/Thurston County lines.
