Trucker Was Watching Porn When He Fatally Struck Construction Worker: Cops

Tate R. Doom, 47

A truck driver responsible for a fatal 2018 collision has been arrested and charged with criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation after authorities discovered he was watching porn on his cell phone at the time of the crash.

Police say 47-year-old Tate R. Doom was speeding through a construction zone on I-94 in Minnesota when he rear-ended a pickup truck that was pulling a trailer. The trailer separated from the truck and struck and killed 59-year-old Vernon C. Hedquist, who was working on the side of the road.

Authorities confiscated both of Doom's cell phones after the crash and had them forensically examined.

"It appears, based on the investigation, that he was watching pornography at the time of [impact]," Chuck Laszewski, spokesman for the County Attorney's Office said.

Officials found over a dozen videos from PornHub saved to his phone and they say he started watching one about 90 seconds before the crash.

Doom was taken to Hennepin County Jail where he remains locked up in lieu of $30,000 bail.
