In September of 2017, Equifax announced it experienced a data breach, which impacted the personal information of approximately 147 million people. It's been referred to as one of the "biggest data breaches in history."
A federal court is considering a proposed class action settlement submitted on July 22, 2019, that, if approved by the Court, would resolve lawsuits brought by consumers after the data breach.
If you were affected by the leak, you can either collect 10 years of free credit monitoring or $125 if you already have credit monitoring. If you had any expenses due to the breach, from anything like your accounts were frozen or attorney feeds, you're also eligible for that. Victims can claim $25 per hour that they spent dealing with the issue (up to 20 hours) and up to $20,000 in other fees with proper documentation.
