Ohio City Stops Hiring Smokers To Encourage Healthier Workplaces

Smoking socially without the stigma

I do not smoke, but I don't know how I feel about this....The city of Dayton,Ohio, says it will no longer hire anyone who uses nicotine or tobacco. City officials say that this would encourage people to have a healthier lifestyle and also it would save costs for the city. “Studies indicate that employees that smoke cost approximately an additional $6,000 per year in direct medical costs and lost productivity,” Kenneth Couch, the city’s director of human resources, told the Dayton Daily News.

Should employers be allowed to discriminate against smokers?
