in #CASE you missed it… Sex Before Bedtime = Best Sleep Ever

Between working long hours and using our phones in bed, going to sleep and getting eight hours of it is a challenge for a lot of us. If you’re one of them, you may have tried some old wives’ tales for sleep aids and had no luck. But forget the warm milk, when you’re having trouble falling asleep, sex may be the solution.

Sex can leave you feeling energetic and hot, but the hormones it releases can actually help you snooze. During the heat of the moment, serotonin levels - which make you feel happy - and levels of oxytocin - which make you feel more connected to your partner - rise. While that’s happening, your levels of cortisol - which controls how stressed you feel - drop. That combo of feeling super connected and happy with your partner and stress-free gets a boost when you orgasm and your body releases the hormone prolactin - which makes you feel sleepy. And all of that together can make you ready to get those much-needed Zs.

Neurologist and sleep specialist Dr Amer Khan explains, “A mutually-satisfying physical and mental interaction before sleep enhances mood, feelings of well-being, releases stress, and makes it easier to switch off the busy mind to go to sleep and stay asleep.”

Do you sleep better after you’ve had sex?
