Mom Breastfeeds Hungry 4-Month-Old While Driving in Traffic Stirs Debate

A mom in Australia has started an Internet debate after she posted a video of herself breastfeeding her baby while she was driving.Raquel Reynolds shared the video on Instagram of her behind the wheel on a highway, where she was stuck in traffic because of an accident on the road ahead. With cars at a standstill and a hungry baby ready to be fed, she says there was no place to pull over, so she decided to feed her four-month-old while driving.

“We’re sitting in traffic and baby’s hungry … it’s so dangerous and it’s a bit crazy,” the mom of four says in the video. “But what am I supposed to do?”

Reynolds asks her followers in the caption what they would’ve done if they were in her shoes and the comments poured in. Some women admitted they would’ve done the same thing, but others were shocked the mom would put her infant in danger by not having her in a car seat. Pediatrician Dr.Alisa Baer says nursing the baby while the car is moving “puts both you and your baby at significant risk of injury.” She explains that the airbag could deploy even in a low-speed crash and instantly kill the baby and warns others not to take that risk.
