A lighthouse keeper working near Port Hardy, British Columbia found out that the dream of a lifetime had just come true. He had hit the lottery and won just over $1 million dollars. The problem was, he couldn't get off work to claim his prize.
Ivan Dubinsky has been working in the lighthouse for over 20 years and it's his job to send weather reports to aircraft and marine vessels. As a result, he buys most of his lottery tickets online and can't leave his post once he's on the schedule. You have to be granted leave and not many other lighthouse keepers are readily available.
Dubinsky had to wait two months until he was able to get leave from the lighthouse to come to claim his prize. Now he plans on retiring from lighthouse life and enjoy his time.
