Will A Face Mask Really Keep You From Getting Sick?

As fears of a coronavirus pandemic spread, many have descended on pharmacies and hardware stores, buying up all the face masks. But does using one really keep you from getting sick?

According to the Mayo Clinic, at least when it comes to preventing the flu, "It can't hurt and it might help." But the coronavirus isn't influenza. It just happens to cause similar symptoms.

With that in mind, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says a mask isn't necessary to stop the spread for anyone who isn't infected or is taking care of someone already sick.

Instead, the CDC recommends washing your hands frequently with soap and water, and to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

How concerned are you about the coronavirus? What preventative steps are you taking?
