in #CASE you missed it… Principal Requires Girls To Get Prom Dresses Approved

Picking out what to wear to the prom is a big event in a teenage girl’s life, but at one Louisiana high school, it’s the principal who has to say “yes” to the dress. Kim Pendleton, principal of Southwood High School in Shreveport, recently sent a text telling students she’ll have to approve their dresses before they can wear them to the dance.

"Prior to purchasing an outfit, I will need you to send me a picture of you in the outfit with your name and grade," the message reads. "Once I approve the outfit, you may purchase it. The approved outfit is the only one you will be allowed to wear to prom."

Pendleton’s guidelines for female students and females that aren’t students but are the date of a student are that the outfits shouldn’t be “sheer or revealing in any manner.” She warns to “make sure we don’t see excessive cleavage or skin.” But she doesn’t mention what the boys can wear. The principal says she made the new rule to “proactively” make sure no one buys something inappropriate for prom and she says she hasn’t turned down a dress yet. Not everyone is happy with her rule, but the school will be holding an assembly to talk about the dress code and students will have a chance to express their concerns.

What if you buy a dress online and can’t get your photo in prior to purchasing?
