Dr. Phil Takes Heat Over Coronavirus Comparison

Two television doctors are taking heat over their takes on coronavirus. The latest?Dr. Phil is in hot water after criticizing local governments’ decisions to close certain businesses as they encourage residents to stay home to slow the spread.

During his appearance on Laura Ingraham’s show on Fox News on Thursday, Dr. Phil compared coronavirus to “automobile, cigarette and swimming pool deaths,” pointing out that the country doesn’t shut down for those reasons. He went on to bash governments for causing the economy to crash, “fallout” that he said will “last for years” and destroy people’s lives.

Dr. Phil’s comments come afterDr. Ozset off the Twitterverse by suggesting American schools reopen since it might “only” kill “2% or 3% more people.” Oz has since apologized for his comment, and while Dr. Phil has responded to the criticism, he didn’t exactly apologize… just called his comparisons “bad examples.”

  • “Last night, I said that we as a society have chosen to live with certain controllable risks every day: smoking, auto crashes, swimming,” Dr. Phil says in a video on hisYouTube channel. “I know these are not contagious, so probably bad examples, I referred to them as numbers of death we apparently find acceptable because we do little or nothing about them.”
  • Meanwhile, the Twitterverse is taking their shots.Check out the reactions below.
