Journalism student Mia Finney normally lives on her own, but she’s currently sheltering in place with her parents at their California home. The 21-year old stays busy with virtual school, but her family is also trying to have fun together. Since she can’t visit some of her favorite places, her father,Ernest, is recreating them for her at home.
Mia loves to go to the movies, so he did a family movie night, transforming their house into a cinema for the night. Ernest made movie theater-style popcorn, had candy for her, and took things to the next level by dressing up as a theater attendant who took her ticket and showed her to her seat. The dad and daughter duo made a TikTok video of the experience, which has over 25-million views. He’s also recreated McDonald’s and Starbucks - both favorites of Mia’s - wearing makeshift uniforms, a headset, and even wrote her name on a Starbucks cup to make it more authentic.
They’ve had fun making videos of the recreations and Mia’s four-million followers on the social media app are enjoying watching them. But the Finleys say the best part about making the TikToksis spending time together. Ernest says the silver lining to the coronavirus crisis is that he gets to spend more time with Mia. She says her dad was always helping her with school projects when she was younger and this had brought back that connection for them. She encourages her followers to spend time with their families, adding, “You’re never too old to hang out with your parents.”
