The first cocktail party happened in St. Louis, Missouri in 1917…it was when a Mrs. Walsh (some have named her as ‘Mrs. Julius S. Walsh…others have Clara Bell Walsh) invited 50 guests to her homeon a Sunday at noon for a one-hour drinking session. "The party scored an instant hit," the local newspaper declared, and stated that within weeks cocktail parties had become "a St. Louis institution." Othersdismissed the concept as a “new society stunt,”but either way…they clearly stayed.

Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt– aka Donn Beach – is commonly recognizedas the "founding father" of tiki bar culture. In 1933, he opened up the small Hollywood bar, Don the Beachcomber’s. The bar was influenced and decorated with objects Ernest had found on his travels throughout the South Pacific. The bar became an instant hit, not only with the locals, but also with celebrities like Charlie Chaplin! Ernest eventually decided to legally change his name to “Donn Beach” which demonstrated his love for his bar and everything tiki.

There is a difference between "whiskey" and "whisky." Whisky often denotes Scotch and Scotch-like liquors, while whiskey generally denotes Irish whiskey and American whiskeys.While both are technically correct(here in America), Scotch is whisky made in Scotland, while bourbon is whiskey made in theUS (generally Kentucky).

Bourbon was named an official native liquor of the United States in 1964– making many people think it was declared the official spirit of the U.S., but in reality, that was finally pushed forth in a resolution in 2008.

Matthew McConaugheyhas a nephew named "Miller Lyte"…yes, really. His brother, who goes by the name Rooster, named his son Miller Lyte (note the "y") and his daughter Margarita Olympia, another (now defunct) beer brand.
