Dad Builds Stage In Driveway For Daughter’s Graduation

Torrence Burnson built a stage in the driveway, decorated it with an official-looking podium and banner and had custom programs printed.

The class of 2020 is missing out on a lot, including traditional graduation ceremonies, but families are finding ways to celebrate their grads. Like Torrence Burnson, a dad from Memphis, Tennessee, who got creative after seeing his daughter, Gabrielle, crying about missing her college graduation ceremony. So he came up with a way to celebrate her graduation from Xavier University in New Orleans from their house.

The crafty dad built a full-on stage in the driveway and had custom programs created for Gabrielle’s very own at-home graduation ceremony. Burnson went all out, with a professional banner and an official-looking podium on the stage, and the family even dressed in scholarly graduation robes for the event.

Gabrielle was totally surprised when she saw what her father had done. She says she was “amazed” and “in awe.” As for the proud papa, he says if he had the chance, he’d do it all over again. “We love our daughter so much, regardless of the dollar figure,” he explains, “if I had to do this over again, I’d probably do it even bigger.”
