Boy Uses Birthday To Raise Money For Cancer Research

Instead of asking for presents for his birthday, nine-year-old Bryson Mittman raises money for cancer research.

Most kids can’t wait to get toys for their birthday presents, but not Bryson Mittman. The nine-year-old from Durham, North Carolina uses his birthday to help give back by raising money for cancer research.

Every year he asks for donations to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as the Multiple Myeloma Foundation. These causes are special to the boy’s heart because his grandfather, Gilbert Casterlow, was diagnosed with blood cancer before Bryson was even born, but he’s doing well.

“It just makes me feel proud,” the grandpa says. “I think it helps me stay healthier just knowing the level of support that I have.”
