Teen Builds, Donates Sanitizing Boxes To Fight Spread Of COVID-19
Savannah Cecchini has been busy during the pandemic, but this teenager is using her time to help health care workers at hospitals. The 17-year-old has been building UV-C light sanitizing boxes and donating them to local hospitals in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The teen says she got the idea after seeing someone build one of the boxes on Facebook and she’s made 16 so far. The sanitizing boxes are made in a simple plastic storage container and when it’s turned on, the UV-C light will kill whatever virus or bacteria is on the items inside. Hospital staff can put their personal items inside and have an extra feeling of security that their things are sterilized.
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where Savannah’s mom is a nurse, has received 11 of the boxes. She says she wanted to do her part to help out during the pandemic after hearing her mother talk about how difficult it has been for doctors and nurses during the pandemic, adding, “I wish I could do more, honestly.”
