TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Neighbors Help Boy Scout Earn Merit Badge

Texas neighbors came together to help an 11-year-old earn a merit badge for Boy Scouts.

Marco Rost is a Boy Scout who has earned his reading merit badge, thanks to his neighbors. The 11-year-old from Klein, Texas, and his family used Nextdoor, a social networking service for neighborhoods, to ask their community to donate books to his book drive.

They were happy to contribute and over the last few months, Marco has gone from door to door collecting more than 500 books. And this act of kindness from his community not only earned this Boy Scout his reading badge, it also helps more young readers. Marco donated the books to Avance Houston, which runs early childhood education programs throughout the city.

“Books help you kinda boost your vocabulary and they also help you encourage your communication skills,” Marco explains. And he used those skills to write dozens of thank you notes to those neighbors who helped him reach his goal.
