TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Inmates Learn To Garden

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas is teaching inmates to grow fruits and vegetables.

The produce is then donated to food pantries in the area.

In Bentonville, Arkansas they’re putting inmates to work in a way that helps everyone. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office has started an “Inmate Garden Program” that gives those who are locked up the chance to learn a new skill and help feed those in need.

The inmates are being taught to grow fruits and vegetables and then they provide that fresh, local produce to food pantries in the area. Last week, the work detail crew donated over 30-pounds of tomatoes and okra to the NWA Food Bank. So they’re getting to do something positive for others while they’re in custody.

“This crew has taken a lot of pride in the harvesting of fruits and vegetables and knowing that it’s going back into the community,” the Sheriff’s Office says.
