in #CASE you missed it… Mom Gives Birth To Quadruplets After Brain Surgery

Being pregnant with quadruplets would be enough of a challenge, but this is 2020 and Chris and Katie Strurm soon got more life-changing news.

As a teenager, Katie Sturm was told she had a medical condition that would prevent her from having biological children, but she’s proven that wrong...and then some! The Texas woman and her husband Chris were already parents to their son, Ryan, when they found out they were expecting quadruplets. And as if being pregnant with four babies wasn’t enough of a challenge, two weeks later she was diagnosed with a brain tumor!

After Katie had a seizure, the couple turned to the medical experts at UT Southwestern Medical Center and even doctors were surprised by everything she was dealing with all at once. “I almost thought I was getting pranked,” admits neurosurgeon Dr. Toral Patel. “It was sort of hard to believe.” HOW hard to believe? Just getting pregnant with quadruplets naturally is extremely rare – we’re talking odds of one in 700-thousand.

Doctors planned the wait and see approach, to monitor her tumor and delay treatment until after the quads were born, but the tumor had other plans. Katie had another seizure and docs decided she needed brain surgery ASAP. Her docs say she was “amazing” with handling everything and her baby boys – Jacob, Daniel, Austin and Hudson – were all born healthy and are doing well, just like their mama. “She has coped with this better than anyone could have imagined,” says Dr. Patel. “She’s remarkable.”
