Insiders tell the Wall Street Journal that the online retailer is planning to launch a new expansion into brick-and-mortar retail by opening some big stores. The Amazon department stores would reportedly be located in California and Ohio, and would offer items from top consumer brands and from the company's private label.
The report says the plans are not final and could change. Amazon currently operates over 20 bookstores around the U.S., and about two-dozen 4-star outlets.
During the pandemic, many IRL retailers struggled and closed some stores.
