Science: Lab-Made Mini Brains Grown Their Own Sets Of ‘Eyes’

Another science fiction idea has come to life; scientists at University Hospital Dusseldorf have issued a statement saying they’ve grown 314 miniature brains from stem cells, and 72% of those brains have formed optic cups, a precursor for eyes.

Why would they grow tiny brains from scratch? Only more digging into it will have the answer. Researchers say they will use them to study human brain development and related diseases and hope to use the ones with eyes to study retinal disorders. The findings were published last week in the journalCell Stem Cell.
