Teen & Mom Bake Their Way To Raise $14K For Kids With Cancer

A Colorado teen and her mom have been baking up sweet treats to support a good cause. It started six years ago when Jill Bernardino placed an order with the nonprofitCookies For Kids’ Cancer, which raises money for childhood cancer research through worldwide bake sales. After learning more about the organization, she decided to get involved with her 13-year-old daughter, Daniela Ortiz.

The duo love to bake together and the first year, they raised $400 for the cause and it’s taken off from there. Since then, they’ve raised $14-thousand for kids’ cancer research. But beyond giving back, the mom and daughter are making sweet memories together, which is even more important after Jill was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer two years ago.

“My goal is just to live every day and enjoy it, deal with what we have right now,” the mom says. “Right now it's all about baking.”
