The National Park Service may have come up with a way to prevent “selfie deaths.”
That’s when someone goes to the edge of a cliff or somewhere risky to snap a selfie and plunges to their death. The service is hoping that selfie stations will do the trick.
They’re setting up wooden stands with info about taking a photo and about the spot on it. Iowa has seen success with it so far and Wisconsin and Minnesota are as well.
Some other things being tried include timed tickets, crowd-monitoring apps, traffic-reducing autonomous vehicles and signs asking visitors to play nice and be respectful are also being experimented with.
