NEW STUDY: There’s A “Magic Number” Of Steps To Take Daily To Live Longer

The study published in the Jama Network Open says that number is seven-thousand. Researchers kept tabs on roughly 21-thousand people between 38- and 50-years-old for roughly 11-years.

Their study found people who walked at least seven-thousand steps a day had a 50 to 70 percent lower risk of premature mortality from any cause.

The good news is, bumping up your step count, no matter what it is, has health benefits. And what about that 10-thousand step goal we were told about? It turns out it’s more of a marketing tool than science. A Japanese company released a step-tracking device in the 1960s called the "10,000 steps meter," encouraging users to reach the milestone, and the number caught on.
