El Salvador Using Volcano Power To Mine Bitcoin

Bitcoin mining is notorious for needing immense power to make it profitable. With this in mind, and a dream to make El Salvador a world leader in cryptocurrency, President Nayib Bukele has announced that his country is “in.”

Posting a teaser video on Twitter, his “First Steps” clip shows a vast array of bitcoin mining equipment and technicians working in a forest that surrounds the power source they intend to use – avolcano. While this may sound far-fetched to most of the world, El Salvador (dubbed “Land of the Volcanoes”) already gets a quarter of its domestic energy from geothermal energy production.

And the bitcoin is already rolling in – so far from this volcano, El Salvador has mined .00599179 bitcoin, or $269.00. Well, the president did say it was a work in progress. It’s a start.
