GOOD NEWS: Cops Untangle Seven Baby Squirrels With Tails Tied In Knot

Someone reported seven baby squirrels found at the base of a tree in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan. Their tails had gotten knotted together and they all fell from their nest in the tree. And when local police officers learned about the squirrels, they wanted to help. With their mother watching from close by, officers and a volunteer carefully untangled the mess and freed the baby squirrels. “Their tails will need a little time to fill back in, but they are safe,” police say.

As to how the squirrels found themselves in the mess in the first place, “The material used to build the nest often gets entangled with the tails and merges them together,” says a rep for the Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control. “Over time the situation becomes more complicated as additional material joins the fusion and the fur becomes matted, essentially trapping the squirrels together.”

Officers on the scene report that the squirrels all appeared to be healthy as they scurried away after being untangled.
