Sharing Meals On Social Media Can Make You Fat

We all do it. We go out to eat, the plate arrives…and we whip out the phone to show the world how we’re getting our eat on. But guess what? It’s making us fat.

As the old saying goes, “we eat with our eyes,” and in this case? Eating with our eyes…makes us want to stuff more in our mouths. In fact, study authors say posting those pics does something squirrely in our brains: it takes longer to feel full and we’re more likely to order seconds.

Maybe not surprisingly, Millennials are the worst culprits…with nearly 70% of them regularly documenting their meals and sharing them on socials. While previous studies suggest taking pictures of our food makes the brain focus more on the smell and taste of the food – heightening the experience – a more recent study done at Georgia Southern University says this behavior also makes us more likely to eat more.

Why? The thinking is that picture-taking of food creates a craving for more than just the food on your plate.
