The 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday (September 15) featured a touching In Memoriam segment, honoring those in the industry who have passed away over the past year. When Perry, who died in October 2023, wasn't shown in the segment on Sunday night, it raised some questions.

According to E! News, viewers voiced their concerns on social media about the potential snub. "How in the world did the Emmy's not include Matthew Perry?!?!" one person asked on X (formerly Twitter) while another thought they may have missed something, "did I miss it or did the Emmy's not show Matthew Perry????"

So why wasn't Perry included in the 2024 Emmys In Memoriam segment? It's actually because he was part of the tribute during the 2023 Emmys ceremony, which took place in January 2024 after being pushed back from its original September 2023 date due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Perry sadly passed away at just 54 years old on October 28, 2023, after he was discovered unresponsive in a hot tub at his home. His death was initially ruled "accidental" and the case was closed, but it was reopened earlier this year months after the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined he died from "the acute effects of ketamine."

Following his death, federal authorities began investigating "key people in Hollywood" and doctors who potentially wrote prescriptions "deemed outside the score of medical necessity." Last month, multiple people were arrested in connection to Perry's death, including his assistant and a woman known as the "Ketamine Queen."
