A mom in Louisville, Kentucky, who dropped out of high school when she was pregnant nine years ago never gave up hope of getting her diploma.Esbeida Bibianowanted to be a good example for her children and she was determined, but it took a push from one of her kids to get the wheels rolling.
Bibiano’s daughter,Gricelda, told her teacher,Amy Dietz, that her mom had a question, but that she was shy about it. The teacher asked the mom about it and Bibiano told her she never got her high school diploma, but wanted to. Dietz connected her with a graduation assistance program that helps people who’ve dropped out finish their education.
From there, Bibiano did all the work and her dedication came to fruition this spring when she donned her cap and gown and walked across the stage to receive the diploma she earned. She calls it the achievement of a lifetime and now she is the example she always wanted to be for her kids. “Now in the future, my daughter knows she can do it too,” Bibiano says. “I did it for her, so she does not make the same mistake I did.”
