in #CASE you missed it… Versace Makes History Using Plus-Size Models

The fashion house had Precious Lee, Jill Kortleve and Alva Claire showing off their 2021 spring/summer collection.

Versace made a big step toward body inclusivity in the designer fashion world by having three plus-size models walk the runway at Milan Fashion Week. Precious Lee, Jill Kortleve and Alva Claire appeared wearing Versace’s 2021 spring/summer collection. It was a first for the fashion house and the models took to Instagram to celebrate the historic moment.

“I’m so emotional writing this, to walk for the iconic Versace has always been a huge dream of mine!” Claire writes. “We made history with this and I will never forget how I feel right now! “

“I will never forget this moment and how I felt before walking out,” Lee posts. “The power and beauty of this brand has always inspired me and now to be the first…wow.”

“This is such a historical moment and I can’t believe it actually happened,” Kortleve shares. “It’s so unbelievable to work for brands I always dreamt of working for. I hope that we open the doors for a new generation with the same dreams but who never saw themselves in the magazines or the commercials.”

Other fashion houses, including Tommy Hilfiger and Fendi, have also hired plus-sized models to walk in previous shows. With more fashion houses on board, it seems some of the fashion community is moving toward a new era where people of all shapes can be celebrated.

Other fashion labels, including Tommy Hilfiger and Fendi, have featured plus-size models on the runway in previous shows. And while the industry still has a long way to go with inclusivity, this is a step in the right direction.
