#DearDaddy... Hard To Watch But You Will Show It To Every Woman You Know

Dear Daddy

This is certainly different from my normal blog posting, but a curious thing happened in my family life recently.  My son is 15 and took a nice young lady out for a movie and Taco Bell last month.  He was interested in her, but after the date she kind of dropped off the face of the earth.  He tried to text and call, but she didn't respond or was at best half-hearted.  Well, a couple days back he asked me if I remembered her and I said yeah and he said well, look at this.  It was her Facebook page and she had posted that she was 6 months pregnant.  He was a little freaked out, so we talked and then I read more of the post.  She wrote that it was her earlier boyfriend's baby and that he wasn't going to be in the picture moving forward.  The line that got me though was that the 18 year old boyfriend told her that he was unable to have children.  Unable to have children?  He knows that at 18?  I sincerely doubt it... and ultimately it proved not to be true.

The whole situation got me to thinking about being a good parent and how even some small things... things you might say jokingly or in an off hand matter may have real impact on your child.  I mean, you wonder if the kid heard that in a locker room sometime and decided it might be a way to hook up with no responsibility?  I know this video has some graphic terms in it, and even though I don't have a daughter, it is a perspective we may need to consider.
