Back in the days we did not have fancy cameras or sensors that would tell us we were getting closer to an object or the curb. Back in the days we had Curb feelers. They were side springs or wires that stuck out from the bottom of a car to alert a driver when they were getting close to a curb. They look silly but heck they were useful. I think you can still buy them. I remember an uncle of mine with a fancy car. He was so concerned with his car, and how to keep it impeccable that he had the curb feelers....SO weird looking...
