Don't microwave children's food in plastic containers.

I do this all the time, and I wasn't aware how dangerous it could. Be honest, who here doesn't microwave everything in plastic containers? Well now we know that heating plastics (including bottles) in the microwave or running them through a dishwasher increases the chance of leaking dangerous chemicals, according to the AAP.

Baby bottles are among the containers doctors are asking parents to avoid putting in the appliances.

According to the report, additives that had long been considered safe have been linked to problems such as brain development, obesity, autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and limited muscle mass and bone strength. In a report published online last week, pediatricians cited growing evidence against chemicals in food colorings, preservatives and food packaging materials.

Doctors recommend using glass containers and stainless steel when using microwaves to heat food and use in the dishwasher.
