Before aerosol sprayers, Americans filled the canister with fly spray (usually Black Flag) and sprayed it to kill the little buggers. Grandpa had a farm so he used to use it to keep the flies away. Imagine things they would say if you have to use them now, because I bet you they were not that healthy. What I remember, and I'm embarrassed about, was to chase my little brother with it.
