My dad had to tell me about this....The first American made cars switched from the floor bright light button that you had to step on, to the switch on the steering column now generally interconnected with the turn signal lever.. FLOOR HIGH BEAM SWITCH
The problem was that you had to replace many of these switches due to the location exposing the metal mechanical switch to excessive moisture. Footwear would transport rain and snow to the switch and carpet. Have you ever seen or driven with a high beam floor switch?
