The Worst Drivers In The US Are From … The South

Traffic Jam

A financial company is rating driving by money metrics along with the safety ones; and we are not doing so well.

With driving, these days, not only comes greater responsibility of fending off distracted driving, but paying a high price for any errors made behind the wheel. SmartAsset decided to look at how the legions of drivers are faring and which states need to step up their game.

Unlike other surveys, the worst drivers aren’t in the Northeast… they’re in Mississippi.

Here’s how the research was measured: the percentage of drivers who are insured, the number of driving under the influence (DUI) arrests per 1,000 drivers, the number of fatalities per 100,000 vehicle miles driven and how often residents Google terms like “traffic ticket” or “speeding ticket.”

Based on the methodology, not only did Mississippi take the top spot, but the South was well worse than any other region in the country! The only exceptions in the top five were California and Nevada, Here are the states with the worst drivers:

  1. Mississippi
  2. Alabama
  3. California
  4. Florida (TIE)

Nevada (TIE)

Texas (TIE)

  1. Arizona
  2. Alaska (TIE)

Tennessee (TIE)

  1. Missouri
