Woman’s Reddit Post Sparks Debate About Carpet In Bathrooms

We all know that home design choices change from year to year, and often older people will have homes that are stuck in the decade in which they first bought them, leaving them with some questionable decorating choices. Well, one woman was shocked at what she saw at her husband’s grandmother’s house, and it wound up sparking a huge debate online.

The woman shared a photo on Reddit of her hubby’s grandmother’s bathroom, which was completely carpeted, and questioned whether it was at all hygienic. She was especially concerned because she explained that it was particularly hard to keep the water from the shower from getting everywhere.

Plenty of users chimed in with their thoughts on the carpet, with many agreeing that it was pretty gross considering all the moisture in bathrooms. “I for one would not go in there without shoes on,” while another added, “Think of the mold.”

But there were also plenty of people who weren’t completely shocked by it, noting that it was something often seen in older homes. “My old townhouse I rented years ago had a carpeted bathroom,” one person wrote. “Soggy would be the best way to describe that bathroom. I’d even say it was perpetually moist.”

And then there were others who didn’t see the big deal, sharing that it was something they expected in homes with older people, “because their feet get cold or they’re afraid of slipping,” while another added, “It’s not a big deal my parents’ house has carpet in the bathroom.”
