That’s the question at play in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin – where lawmakers are considering putting into place an anti-bullying ordinance that would fine parentsif their children bully others.
Earlier this month, the Wisconsin Rapids’ Legislative Committee voted unanimously to recommend the ordinance to the Common Council – that body will consider it on June 18th(Tuesday).
Apparently, the move was inspired by a viral social media incident, which showed a local middle school girl getting handwritten notes from her peers urging her to kill herself. If passed, the measure would hold parents and guardians responsible for such behavior – the first fineable offense would be $50, with additional costs bringing the total to $313. Parents would receive a written warning first.
