No Criminal Case At This Time Against Father In Twins’ Hot Car Deaths

New York prosecutors have declined to send the case against a father whose twin babies died after he forgot them in his car to a grand jury. The case remains open and could move forward in the future, but for now, the proceedings are paused.

Juan Rodriguez admitted that he left his twins in the backseat of his car while he was at work. He didn't realize they were still in their rear-facing car-seats until he was driving home, over eight hours later. Rodriguez immediately pulled over and called 911, but the kids could not be saved. He told authorities he thought he dropped them off with a babysitter along with his three-year-old child.

Rodriguez was charged on Saturday (June 27) with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of criminally negligent homicide.

Rodriguez's attorney, Joey Jackson, says they are in contact with the district attorney's office and hopes the charges will ultimately be dismissed.

"We are speaking to the district attorney's office to convey to them what I think that they know and understand. That this was a horrific and terrible tragedy," Jackson said.
