in #CASE you missed it… #ExploreCharleston ( Part 2 )

Friday morning came in quietly with the soft Atlantic breeze as the wife and I woke to explore our first day around historic Charleston, South Carolina.

The luxurious accommodations at the Ansonborough Inn made getting ready a delight. The spa like shower was just what I needed and my wife said that the lighting in the bathroom was amazing for doing her make up. Add that to the travel score!

Having finished primping and getting ready we made our way downstairs to the complimentary breakfast buffet that was offered to guests at the Ansonborough Inn. Traditional fare as one would expect along with some Southern classics that come smothered in gravy!

For the wife and I the one BIG thing we wanted to check off our list when visiting Charleston was Fort Sumter. It’s like going to Seattle and you HAVE to see the Space Needle or Pike Place Market right?

Do you know the history behind Fort Sumter? Pretty amazing actually.

“The Battle of Fort Sumter (April 12–13, 1861) was the bombardment of Fort Sumter near Charleston, South Carolina by the South Carolina militia (the Confederate Army did not yet exist), and the return gunfire and subsequent surrender by the United States Army, that started the American Civil War.” – as Wikipedia will say.

So you can see why the excitement about seeing a major historical sight like this!

As we listened to the National Park Ranger share a more detailed fun filled fact laden history of Fort Sumter we could all feel the significance this place has, the energy, the men who died here. My wife was moved needless to say and as we rode the ferry back to the mainland we couldn’t help but think and picture to ourselves what this very harbor must have looked like that fateful April night in 1861.

After a powerful experience like that we were definitely in need of some higher spirits and that’s JUST what we had lined up next!

Just a short stroll from the hotel there are numerous restaurants, bars, and fine dining options.

We found Henry’s On The Market. Where they have live jazz and a pretty sweet roof top deck that hosts a really nice view over the market.

After a great meal and a glass of wine we were ready for our night out Ghost Hunting on a “Haunted Historical Tour of Charleston”. What was the mysterious figure my wife saw, just you wait! Check back to find out as we continue to #explorecharleston
