Bride’s Stepmother-In-Law Gives Her Used Lingerie For Shower Gift

When you go to wedding showers the bride usually knows what they’re gonna get (as most people shop a couple’s registry). But one bride got quite a shock when she opened the gift from her future stepmother-in-Law.

As the woman shared on Reddit, she had insisted to her family that she didn’t want a wedding shower before her big day, and while her mother and stepmom were fine with it, her stepmother-in-law wouldn’t let it go. Against her wishes the SMIL threw her a bridal shower, which made the bride’s mother and stepmom “cry” since they had wanted to throw one for her.

But if that wasn't bad enough, the SMIL then “made it all about her, parading around like the 'mother of the bride.'” She also made it a “lingerie themed” party, so the bride wound up getting “15 different nightgowns as presents," noting, "I don't wear/have never worn nightgowns in my life, so I ended up returning all of them for bathing suits.”

There were a lot of other issues with the shower, but the most uncomfortable moment came when the SMIL gave the bride her gift, announcing it in “a dramatic (and long) fashion.” "It was a HAND-ME-DOWN NIGHTGOWN,” the bride writes. "Long almost down to my ankles, lace, and the bra part is completely see through with sequins....nips galore. As you can imagine, folks were not down with the SMIL’s choice of gift.

"OMG," one commenter wrote. "The cringe-factor is in the stratosphere."

"I would get future dear husband to return to her it with a 'this is not an appropriate gift, it's actually disturbing to give my future wife something that you obviously had sex with my father in,’” another person shared.

The bride later noted that her husband-to-be is “disgusted” by the gift, although she’s not going to give it back. “I plan on keeping it in the box in my closet, just in case she wants to 'see it' in the future (which would not surprise me)," she explained. "The day she leaves this earth, the gown is going with her."
