I will ask you this question... How do you sew a button on any heavy fabric, without using a precious thimble? Unless you were my grandma whose fingers were already trained to endure any pain while sowing. The rest of us, we all needed a thimble. The were placed on fingers when someone sews and wants to protect fingers from being poked when putting the needle into the material to make a stich.
