TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Teen Saves Mom & Three Kids From Car Fire

A Connecticut teen is being recognized for saving a family from a burning car.

A teenager in Connecticut is being recognized as a hero for saving a family from a burning car. Justin Gavin, 18, was walking down the street in Waterbury when a small SUV that was covered in flames drove past him. He says he could see a little girl in the car window and he rushed to help.

The teen chased the car down the street and by the time he caught up to it, it had come to a stop. Gavin opened the door, helped the mother behind the wheel get out and then pulled her three kids, ages nine, four, and one, safely out of the back seat. He says moments later, the car was totally engulfed in flames.

The grateful mother credits Gavin with saving her family’s life and the Waterbury Police Chief awarded him with a “challenge coin” to honor his courageous act. “I just felt like if I was in that situation, I would want somebody to help me out,” the brave teen explains. “I guess my instincts took over.”
