Going into 2021, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has put safety at the forefront of Americans' minds. Despite vaccines being administered throughout the country, only 0.62 percent of the population have been fully vaccinated as of January 20, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Statistics aside, some states may be safer than others. WalletHub looked at all 50 states and the District of Columbia to compare them. Analysts looked at rates of COVID-19 transmission, hospitalizations, death and more.
With that said, where does Washington rank?
According to the website, the Evergreen State came in the No. 16. That means the state is handling the pandemic rather well. Unfortunately, researchers noted the state had one of the highest transmission rates of COVID-19 in the study.
Here are the Top 10 states researchers considered safest during the pandemic:
"Safety is also essential for getting the economy back on track, as the lower COVID-19 transmission and deaths are in a state, the more that state is able to eliminate restrictions on businesses," Adam McCann said. "We’ll only be able to fully get back to life as normal once most of the population is vaccinated against coronavirus, and it will still be months before we can achieve that."
