An Army Veteran Helps Another Rebuild Home After Fire

An Army veteran is pitching in to help a fellow vet after her house was heavily damaged by a fire. Vietnam-era veteran and retired hospice nurseSue Simoneau returned home on September 12, 2019 to find her Wareham, Massachusetts, home engulfed in flames.

The 65-year-old has not been able to afford to rebuild and nearly a year and a half later, parts of the house are still charred and gutted.James Pooler read about her story in a local Facebook group and wanted to help Sue out. He does some carpentry and has been doing all he can to assist with repairs.

Pooler says he was grateful he could help her because it helped him when he was going through a rough patch with his depression and working on Sue’s house makes him feel better. “Veterans are very much family,” he explains. “We look out for each other because we all went through something similar. So it’s easy to connect.”
