Employees at Everett's oldest golf course are reeling from a major landscaping error, according to KIRO 7.
Reporters learned that the wrong chemicals were sprayed on every single putting green at Walter Hall Golf Course, which is located at 1226 Casino Rd. It took just a few days for all 18 greens to get ruined.
“[The lawn] started getting browner and bumpier. It was burned pretty good,” golfer Elvis Wheeler said.
All the affected putting greens are getting torn up and replaced now. Much of the golf course is off-limits while sod is getting planted across the property, journalists noted.
According to the golf course's website, a "misunderstanding with the supplier" led to the mistake. KIRO 7 identified the supplier as a city contractor, who agreed to personally cover the replacement expenses.
“It’s really going to look like it’s done for quite a while, but then there’s a growing phase before we can actually allow people to start playing on it,” said Bob Leonard of Everett Parks and Recreation.
Here is the notice posted to Walter Hall's website:
"Due to a misunderstanding with a supplier, the incorrect material was sprayed onto the greens at Walter Hall Golf Course. As a result, the greens will be recontoured, and will have all of their sod replaced. This work will begin on Monday, August 2nd. Our current plan is to have the greens back online again by Labor Day. While this is an extremely unfortunate incident, we are excited to have new greens, increased playability and enhanced opportunities for future play at Walter Hall. In the meantime, temporary greens will be established and a fee of $25 per round is in effect until the greens are reopened."
