Air Force Crew Helps Afghan Woman Deliver Baby On Evacuation Plane

An Air Force plane had an extra passenger when an evacuation flight from Afghanistan landed. An Afghan woman on board went into labor during the flight and military personnel helped deliver the baby in the plane’s cargo bay.

The plane was flying from Kabul to Ramstein Air Base in Germany when the mother started experiencing complications during labor because of low blood pressure. The pilot descended in altitude to increase air pressure in the plane and that helped stabilize the mother.

General Tod Wolters reports both mom and baby are doing well and are in good condition, despite the unusual delivery. He says the baby girl’s parents decided to name her after the plane’s call sign - Reach.
