Woman Mispronounced Her Name For 20 Years 'To Make Others' Lives Easier'

An English woman says she got so tired of people mispronouncing her name, she stopped trying to correct the. For more than 20 years, holistic wellness practitioner Jyoti Chadda mispronounced her own name to make others' lives easier.

Chadda thinks it’s funny people can learn how to say names like Tchaikovsky, but not Jyoti – which, for the record, is pronounced “Jyoh-thee.” But she’s been saying it as “Jotty” for over two decades, since people mispronounced it so often… especially during her school days, when kids would rhyme it with “potty.”

But now, she’s vowed to say it correctly, and make sure others do, too. She’s mustered up the courage to challenge “rude and arrogant” people who think they can choose how someone’s name is pronounced – or in the case of a simple misunderstanding, take the time to teach people how to pronounce her name correctly. And it “warms her heart” when they do.
