Would you want 9/11 as your wedding anniversary? It’s not a date most brides and grooms would select as their first choice, but after COVID forced so many to postpone their weddings, a lot of them are reconsidering. With so many couples scrambling to find available dates for their rescheduled nuptials, Saturday, September 11th was a date that event spaces had available and some lovebirds decided to book it.
Being the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, tying the knot on that date may seem insensitive, but desperate times call for desperate measures. With no other dates available at their desired venues, some couples are willing to take 9/11 and try to turn the date into something positive.
After delaying their big day because of the pandemic, brides and grooms are taking the only day open at their event space. And some of them are getting backlash over the decision, like bride-to-be Jazmin Castro, who says, “It’s uncomfortable every single time,” she tells someone she’s saying “I do” on 9/11.
- But not everyone has an issue with the date. A bride posted onto Wedding Wire asking if it would be disrespectful to get married then after postponing her event due to lockdown last year and she received lots of supportive comments. “I think people are always looking for good memories to have on days that stand out as being anniversaries of more somber events,” one writes.
- Wedding planner Björn VW is helping clients marry on September 11th and says, “I’m just happy now that my couple will be able to turn a negative experience into something positive for them that looks to the future.”
